17-year-old held for honour killing

Police have arrested a 17-year-old resident of village Mahan Badhar of Lakhewali for allegedly murdering Gurmeet Singh, alias Bunty. Bunty's body was recovered from near the village common land in Mahan Badhar village of Muktsar district on Tuesday. The victim reportedly teased the accused' sister, the motive of the murder.

Police have arrested a 17-year-old resident of village Mahan Badhar of Lakhewali for allegedly murdering Gurmeet Singh, alias Bunty.

Bunty's body was recovered from near the village common land in Mahan Badhar village of Muktsar district on Tuesday. The victim reportedly teased the accused' sister, the motive of the murder.

A murder case has been registered against the accused on a complaint from Neela Singh, the father of the victim.

"The accused is a neighbor of the victim and shared a common boundary wall. The accused dropped out after Class-5. The accused has reportedly been teasing the sister of the accused."

"The murder weapon, a sharp-edged small chooper, has been recovered," sources said.

"The accused has confessed to the crime and has been sent to the juvenile jail in Ludhiana after producing him before a local court," said Lakhewali SHO Mohan Lal.
