According to information available, deceased Lovepreet Singh was a daily labourer and was returning home on Wednesday evening along with his fellow workers, when a bus bearing the registration number PB-08 BI-2844, going towards Kahnowan, hit him from behind and dragged him for about 100 metres. The victim died on the spot.

On receiving information about the accident, residents of the village and family members of the deceased held a dharna on the Batala-Kahnuwan road.

The protesters placed Lovepreet's body on the road and blocked traffic for more than two hours. The protesters also broke window panes of the bus and tried to set it ablaze but the police party present on the spot foiled their attempt.

Demanding immediate arrest of the driver, the protesters alleged that as he was an employee of former Akali minister Sewa Singh Sekhwan, the police had allowed him to flee the spot.

Sekhwan police station SHO Tersem Singh said police had registered a case under Section 304a against bus driver Kulwant Singh.
