26 years on, stadium still incomplete

An indoor stadium, conceived for Nakodar town about 26 years back is still incomplete. Congress leader late Umrao Singh had laid the foundation stone and Punjab government released a grant of Rs 1.95 lakh on March 8, 1988, for the construction of the stadium.

An indoor stadium, conceived for Nakodar town about 26 years back is still incomplete. Congress leader late Umrao Singh had laid the foundation stone and Punjab government released a grant of Rs 1.95 lakh on March 8, 1988, for the construction of the stadium.

However, the money was not spent and the state internal audit department passed strictures against non-utilisation of funds. The Punjab state sports council has directed the municipal council to refund grants that were not utilised on time. Getting a public place where the youth can indulge in sports has been a pending demand of residents.
