Cracking the whip on farmers, who continue to defy the orders prohibiting stubble-burning, the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) and the agriculture department imposed a penalty of Rs 82,500 on 28 farmers in the district.

Police have registered 19 cases in this regard.
Senior superintendent of police Gurpreet Singh Toor said, “Strict instructions have been issued to all station house officers in the district to stop blatant violation of the law. Members of the public can inform incidents of stubble- burning on police control room by dialing 100.
