3 held with heroin worth Rs 25 lakh

A bhangra troupe chief, his accomplice and another man were arrested in separate cases after the anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing recovered a total of 40gm heroin from their possession at Salem Tabri on Saturday. The recovered heroin in both cases costs Rs 25 lakh.

A bhangra troupe chief, his accomplice and another man were arrested in separate cases after the anti-narcotics and anti-illicit liquor smuggling wing recovered a total of 40gm heroin from their possession at Salem Tabri on Saturday.

The recovered heroin in both cases costs Rs 25 lakh. Wing incharge sub-inspector Harbans Singh said in the first case the police ar rested Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Basant Nagar and his aide, Manpreet Singh of Dhurkot Road in Ahmedgarh, following a tip-off.

The accused were riding a motorcycle when the police stopped them and recovered 40gm heroin from their possession. The police also confiscated their motorcycle.

He said Manpreet ran a bhangra troupe in the name of Arman Bhangra Group, while Mukesh was a member of another group Gora International Bhangra Group.

The accused themselves were drug addicts and indulged in drug peddling to meet their need of drugs, he added.

The accused told the police that they procured the heroin from Phillaur. A case under section 22-61-85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) act has been registered.

Police claimed that the accused confessed to have procured the contraband from Kot Ise Khan of Moga. A case under NDPS Act has been registered.
