3 including dismissed cop arrested for kidnapping and murder

Three people including a dismissed assistant sub-inspector (ASI) were arrested for the murder of a money-changer, who was kidnapped from outside a bank on here February 18. The family of the victim, Hari Om Garg (62), had complained to the police that he was kidnapped on the afternoon of February 18, after he withdrew Rs 8 lakh from a bank.

The family of the victim, Hari Om Garg (62), had complained to the police that he was kidnapped on the afternoon of February 18, after he withdrew Rs 8 lakh from a bank. The police had registered a case of kidnapping at the New Baradari police station, additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP), Naresh Dogra said.

Call details of the mobile phone of Garg indicated that one Gurmeet Singh had made the last call to his mobile. The phone was switched off, after that. Dogra added that accordingly a trap was laid and Gurmeet was arrested.

During preliminary interrogation, Gurmeet said that he was a regular customer of Garg for changing currency. His daughter, settled in UK, used to send him the money.

On the day of the incident, Gurmeet rang up Garg and asked him to exchange Euros. Garg then withdrew Rs 8 lakh from the bank. The ADCP said that Gurmeet wanted to rob Garg and called up his brother-in-law and dismissed ASI Ranjit Singh and his friend Nishan Singh to carry out his intentions.

All the three suspects have been arrested. Revolver used in the crime and Rs 6.5 lakh have been recovered. The body has also been recovered.

A case under Section 302 (murder), 365 (kidnapping), and 27,54,59 of Arms Act has been registered against the suspects.
