4,709 appear in national talent, scholarship exams

A total of 4,709 students appeared for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination in the district on Sunday.

A total of 4,709 students appeared for the National Talent Search Examination (NTSE) and National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarship (NMMS) examination in the district on Sunday.

Out of total 4,709 candidates, 2,561 Class 10 students appeared in the NTSE, while 2,148 Class 8 students appeared in the NMMS exam.

For NTSE, 2813 students have applied and 2281 for NMMS.

In comparison to the last year, more number of students appeared for both the exams.

Examination centres for NTSE were set up at Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar, Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU, Government Senior Secondary School (boys) Jawahar Nagar, Government Senior Secondary School (girls), Jawahar Nagar, Government High School, Sunet, Government High School, Sarabha Nagar and Government Senior Secondary School, Gobind Nagar.

For NMMS exams, there were six centres set up at Government Senior Secondary School (boys), Multipurpose, Sarvodya Khalsa High School, Kalitar Senior Secondary School, Sarvodya Co-educational High School, Government Senior Secondary School, Haibowal Khurd and Government Model Senior Secondary School, Miller Ganj.The exam was conducted between 10am and 1pm.

District science supervisor Varinder Kaur said: “Any teacher of lecturer or master cadre can be deputed on exam duty. We have given the responsibility to school principal to depute teachers for the exam duty.”

Teams from State Council of Educational Research and Training for students of Classes 8 and 10 also visited few examination centres.

Scholarship

If students, whose parents’ income is less than `1.5 lakh per annum, clear the NMMS exam, they will get a monthly scholarship of `500. Similarly, students who clear the NTSE will also get `500 scholarship per month.
