Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) will honour four farmers of rural areas of the state during the two-day Pashu Palan Mela (Animal Husbandry Fair) from March 15.
The university has selected these farmers based on their progress and innovations in the field of cow dairy, poultry and goat farming.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Ranjodhan Singh Sahota, director of extension education, said they would honour four farmers of rural areas with chief minister awards.
Jagdeep Singh, a farmer of Assal village in district Ferozepur, is among the four awardees.
“The farmer has made a special shed, which remains cool in summer days even in absence of a fan. Jagdeep has also installed a special machine, through which cow dung goes automatically to the bio-gas plant. He has also installed a special system for the bathing of animals, besides installing a bulk milk chiller,” Ranjodhan said.
The two awards in the field of poultry farming will be given to Raghbir Chand of Tapa Mandi in Barnala and Dalbir Singh of Kotla Shamspura village in Ludhiana district.
“Chand has installed fully automatic systems to keep the farm clean. He has installed a special technique to solve the problem of stink at poultry farm housing of more than 2.5 lakh chickens. While, Dalbir is using a technique to use chickens droppings for bio-gas plant,” Ranjodhan said.

{{/usCountry}}Another farmer, Gamdin Singh of Bhutta village of Fatehgarh Sahib, will be awarded for doing well in goat farming. Gamdin's goats have won number of awards at various fairs in Punjab.
Ranjodhan said the farmers were judged for the award based on how they kept animals, what they did for environment, how they provided shelters and facilities for animals, how they provided feed and some other aspects. He said these four farmers had done special works and adopted unique ways of animal husbandry.
He said preparations for the fair were in full swing, adding that farmers would get to learn about the advanced technologies and methods of animal husbandry at the fair.
