48817 beneficiaries benefited from pension schemes

To uplift economically weaker sections of the society, the state government has launched various pension schemes under which Rs 14.56 crore was distributed to beneficiaries of the old age, widows, handicapped and dependent children pension schemes in the district during last year.

To uplift economically weaker sections of the society, the state government has launched various pension schemes under which Rs 14.56 crore was distributed to beneficiaries of the old age, widows, handicapped and dependent children pension schemes in the district during last year.

Deputy commissioner DS Mangat said that all pension beneficiaries were paid their dues from January 1 to December 31, 2012.

He said that a total of 48,817 beneficiaries were benefited from various pension schemes in the district.

Mangat said that under the old-age pension scheme, 33,640 beneficiaries were distributed Rs 10.11 crore, while under widow pension scheme, 7,609 beneficiaries were distributed Rs 2.22 crore, 3,694 beneficiaries were distributed Rs 1.14 crore under the dependent children pension scheme and under handicapped pension scheme, 3,874 beneficiaries were distributed Rs 1.87 crore as pension.

He added that the state social security and women and child development department had gives Rs 250 a month to each beneficiary, under various pension schemes to the beneficiaries. He added that under the centrally sponsored pension schemes, more than Rs 2.38 crore was distributed to 6,202 beneficiaries.

He said that 196 widow pension scheme beneficiaries were given Rs 3.72 lakh, under dependent children pension scheme Rs 58,000 was distributed to 34 beneficiaries and under the handicapped pension scheme, 21 beneficiaries were distributed Rs 2.01 lakh as pension.
