The members of NRMU had gone to Ferozepur to submit the ballot boxes after the conclusion of elections for the railway union. While the NRMU members claimed that five of their men were attacked injured in the clash, URMU office-bearers said that four of their members also injured and admitted to a hospital in Amritsar. URMU has alleged that NRMU members had attacked them first.

Paramjeet Singh, divisional secretary, All India Loco Running Staff Association, also visited the injured and put his weight behind the claims of NRMU. “The members of UMRU had attacked them first,” he said.

Those admitted to CMCH are: Daljeet Singh, Avtar Singh, Anil Kumar, Som Nath and Parminder Singh.

URMU general secretary BC Sharma refuted the allegations. “A member of NRMU had used abusive language with URMU members in Ferozepur after which Parveen Kumar, president of URMU, was trying to control the situation,” he said. “However, they attacked Parveen, who was left injured. Others who were hurt were Sukhdev, Dharamraj and Ramesh of URMU.” The election's result will be declared on May 2, he said.
