As many as 560 girls from 2011-12 and 2012-13 academic sessions were awarded graduate and post graduate degrees during the convocation and prize distribution function of FC College for Women held on the campus on Friday.
Nisha Bhatia, principal of the college, conferred the degrees upon students and also motivated them to attain greater heights and success in their chosen fields.
Ram Kumar Rawalwasi, president, governing body of the college, awarded the roll of honour to 28 students for their achievements at national and international-level besides giving away prizes to 590 students for their accomplishments in the field of sports and extra-curricular activities.
In his address, Ashok Kumar Saroha, Income Tax commissioner, who was chief guest, laid emphasis on education and how being a graduate or a post-graduate was a matter of honour, pride and responsibility for each of them.
The college also remembered its founder Rai Fateh Chand, who was instrumental in setting up the first women's college in the region 80 years back, thereby promoting women's education at a time when it was unheard of.
Addressing the girls, Rawalwasia exhorted them to be integral part of society, making it a better place to live. "Women empowerment is the keyword these days. Empowered and confident, you can help society get rid of ills like materialism, casteism and communalism that are ailing it at the moment," he said.
