Despite the one-day ban imposed on the sale of non-vegetarian items during Jain festival of 'Samvatsari' on September 17 by the Ludhiana police commissionerate, various hotels and meat shops were found selling and serving meat and eggs on Thursday.

MC veterinary officer Dr YP Singh, along with SI Gurcharan Singh, checked a few meat shops and hotels on Thursday morning and issued six challans for selling meat and eggs.

Rishi Pal Singh, zonal commissioner (zone C) also checked several eatery shops in the evening and issued three challans for selling meat, eggs to the violators. Singh said, "During the checking it was found that despite the ban by the police commissionerate, the shops were found selling meat, which we destroyed on the spot."

Talking to Hindustan Times, the MC veterinary officer said, "We have issued challans to the violators as it is important to give a message to the various hotels and meat shop owners to follow the ban orders. During the visit to these places, the authorities concerned have shown ignorance about the ban orders."

Around 100 challans were issued to various eatery shops as most of them were preparing foods in unhygienic conditions. McDonald at Ansal Plaza, Bikanar shop at Kipps market failed to show the fitness certificate of their staff during the checking so the challans were issued. Even the chowpatties set up in various areas were found preparing food in unhygienic conditions.
