7 Punjabis elected to British Columbia assembly

The results threw up a hung House in British Columbia (BC) as Liberals won on 43 seats, New Democratic Party (NDP) on 41 and Green Party on three seats. A party needs 44 seats to form a government

Seven candidates of Punjabi origin settled in Canada emerged winners in British Columbia (BC) provincial polls, results of which were declared on Wednesday.

Six of them belong to New Democratic Party (NDP). They are Rachana Singh, who was declared victorious from Surrey-Green Timbers); Harry Bains (Surrey-Newton), Jagrup Brar (Surrey-Fleetwood), Raj Chohan (Burnaby-Edmonds), Jinny Sims (Surrey-Panorama) and Ravi Kahlon (Delta North). Besides them, Jes Johal (Richmond-Queens borough) of the Liberal Party also won.

A total of 87 constituencies went to polls.

The results threw up a hung House in BC as Liberals won on 43 seats, NDP on 41 and Green Party on three seats. A party needs 44 seats to form a government.
