People now do not have to queue at offices of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) to pay electricity bills as 70 collection outlets have been opened in various parts of the district.
The consumers need not follow the old procedure of going to the offices of PSPCL to deposit their bills and waste time and energy as these outlets dotted in various parts of the district would be accessible at any time of day and would remain open on holidays.
The outlets, which are opened under the agreement between PSPCL and service providers Suvidha Infoserve Private Limited, Mumbai and Easy Bill Limited, New Delhi, would be located in departmental stores, grocers and electronic stores.
Rajat Sharma, additional superintendent said that this initiative was taken to reduce the time a consumer has to spend in paying bills.
He said the corporation has noticed that some outlet owners were charging Rs 10 to 20 for the service, which is unfair as it is supposed to be free of cost. "The consumers can complain against such owners and PSPCL would cancel the licence of such outlets immediately. PSPCL is paying private companies for the service," he added.

{{/usCountry}}He said that PSPCL had made an agreement with the aforementioned companies from November 2011 to November 2012. "After this period, the corporation would review the agreement and extend it if this system proved to be beneficial for the consumers," he said.
