73% gangrape victims in Hisar division minors

The KD Singh Foundation, a social organisation providing medical, legal and rehabilitation support to rape victims, has rehabilitated 25 victims in the past one year across the Hisar division. As per the date available with the foundation, 73% of rape victims were minors and in 82% of the cases, the accused were known to the victims.

As per the date available with the foundation, 73% of rape victims were minors and in 82% of the cases, the accused were known to the victims.

Out of the documented cases, 54% of the rape victims belonged to Scheduled Castes (SCs) and around 51% to backward and OBC castes. Only 5% of the accused are minors and 45% of them belong to the Scheduled Castes (SCs) whereas 28% belong to the backward castes and 28% to the general category.

Out of the total 16 cases being offered legal support in the Hisar division, the foundation has been able to achieve convictions in 4 cases till date. The Foundation has offered legal aid to 73% victims, followed by medical aid to 5% victims and education support to 5% victims. Out of 73% cases where foundation is providing legal support, 31% victims are still struggling for justice for almost a year with the cases having reached up to charge framing stage.
