86-year-old retired SDO commits suicide

An 86-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his Punjab Mata Nagar residence on Saturday morning. The Sarabha Nagar police took the body into its custody and have sent it to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.

An 86-year-old man committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his Punjab Mata Nagar residence on Saturday morning.


The Sarabha Nagar police took the body into its custody and have sent it to the civil hospital for a post-mortem examination.

The deceased, Swarn Singh, was a retired sub-divisional officer (SDO) from the public health department. His wife had died a few years ago. After the death of his physically challenged daughter, he had gone into depression.

According to ASI Pawittar Singh of Sarabha Nagar police station, the domestic help was the first to witness the incident. She entered into the home as usual for household work and was shocked to see Swarn Singh hanging from the ceiling fan with a turban. She raised the alarm and sounded to Jatinder Singh, nephew of the deceased, who lives nearby. Later, Jatinder informed the police about the incident.

ASI Singh said according to prima facie, Swarn Singh committed suicide because of to depression and loneliness, but the police were investigation the matter from all facets.
