The Amritsar unit of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a protest march against the rise in prices of vegetables, diesel, petrol, LPG and other essential commodities, besides the hefty increase in rail fare announced by the BJP-led NDA government.
Raising slogans against the NDA government, the AAP activists demanded immediate roll back in the fuel prices and railway fare along with effective measures to rein in prices of essential commodities.
The march started from Bhandari Bridge and culminated outside the Hall Gate where a demonstration was held.
The protesters accused the BJP of befooling the public by making false promises ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.
AAP district convener Ashok Talwar said that the Congress and the BJP are two sides of the same coin as they have been exploiting the people since long on one issue or the other. "This is evident from the fact that BJP, which used to hold protests against the price rise while in opposition, is now treading the same path trodden by its predecessor," he said.
"Since the formation of BJP-led NDA government at the Centre, inflation has increased manifold and the common man is feeling ditched as well as distressed with rising prices of vegetables, petrol, diesel and LPG," Talwar added.

{{/usCountry}}He maintained that hefty hike in rail fares has come as a big jolt to the people who prefer this mode of transportation while commuting to various destinations.
"The NDA has made its intentions amply clear just within one month that the welfare of common public nowhere stands on its agenda. On the contrary, this government is extending benefits to big corporate houses that financed their election campaign," Talwar alleged.
He urged the government to declare fiscal emergency and clamp down on the extravagant expenses of its ministers, MPs and MLAs.
