Former union minister for law and justice Ashwani Kumar has termed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) "a group of anarchists".

Addressing mediapersons at his residence here on Sunday, Ashwani Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member from Punjab, said AAP chief and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal led political moves of his party like an anarchist.

Ashwani Kumar said no other leader of Kejriwal's status would have done as he did in Gujarat recently. He said Kejriwal's party would damage the democratic fibres of the country.

Kumar said the AAP would not matter much in the Lok Sabha elections.

"The Congress was facing a big challenge in the ensuing general elections and should field its big and strong leaders in the parliamentary elections to ensure its win, Ashwani Kumar added.

The Congress would announce the candidates' name from the remaining constituencies across the country in days to come, he added.

Kumar said it was moral duty of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) chief and sitting MP from Gurdaspur to contest the election, adding if he refused to contest, it would have a demoralising effect on other candidates.
