The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has set its eyes on the state of Haryana among others and Gurgaon in particular to bring home some Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming general elections, released its 15-page manifesto for the constituency on Wednesday.
The catch: the entire document is in Hindi, which, the party says, is on account of the fact that the majority of the voters here comes from rural areas.
Apart from having identified six major challenges to be tackled in the constituency, the party has promised to deal with a total of 11 issues here, including high rate of corruption, unemployment and lack of governance in the urban areas.
“Corruption is the single-most important issue for Gurgaon. However, apart from blatant corruption like bribing and taking away of land from farmers, the ‘builder raj’ which is thriving in the city is also serious graft,” said Yogendra Yadav, the AAP candidate from Gurgaon.
The party’s manifesto talks about better educational opportunities and health infrastructure, dealing with the rising environmental challenges, solving the issue of absence of infrastructure for migrant labourers and also ensuring safety of women.
“In spite of Gurgaon being called the Millennium City, it lacks a good public health system and institutions of public education. Due to its close proximity to other parts of the constituency, Gurgaon can become a hub of facilities,” said Yadav while launching the manifesto.

{{/usCountry}}“The rapid pace of development has also made an impact on the environment. While the city is already struggling with lack of water, other areas like Mewat are not doing any better,” he added.
Yadav also said the lack of calamity management had made agriculture a loss-oriented business. “Farmers don’t receive state funds, they don’t have proper means for irrigation and in case of crop failure or calamity they don’t have any place to go,” he said.
It has also promised better infrastructure and employment opportunities, and checking of illicit sale of liquor.
“Employment opportunities can only grow if we have better policies which help in the growth of small and medium enterprises. We encourage the coming up of new businesses. It is also very important to help curb the addiction of liquor and drugs in the state to guide the youth in the right direction,” Yadav added.
