Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has launched a membership drive in the city keeping in view the Punjab assembly elections to be held in 2017.

In a press conference organized on Saturday, Col (retired) CM Lakhanpal, zonal coordinator, Aam Aadmi Party, Ludhiana, said 3,000 membership stalls are being set up in the state every day. Social media is also being used to aid the membership drive. “Besides, people can give a missed call on 8007006003 to become a member,” he said.

After completing the circle and booth committees, the AAP has started a mass membership campaign- Punjab Jodo- from August 20 to 31. The party targets to make 25 lakh new members in Punjab or almost 20,000 in each assembly constituency, he added.

After completing the membership drives, the party will hold 39 Jan Sabhas in the state to target the Punjab Government on the issues of corruption and drugs in September. These Jan Sabhas will be addressed by both the central and state leadership. Of these, four Jan Sabhas will be held in Ludhiana zone as well as the Chapaar Mela conference, said Lakhanpal.

According to the AAP's zonal coordinator, the Jan Sabhas will be followed by a gherao of Punjab Assembly or chief minister's residence in protest against corruption and drug menace.
