In an evident example of the apathetic attitude of the authorities concerned towards the provision of better civic amenities to residents, the Nehru Park in Abohar, a sub division of Fazilka district, is in a dilapidated state.
Scattered in six acres in the heart of the town, Nehru Park, the lone park in the area, wears a deserted look while the required amenities are given a miss.
The boundary wall of the park has caved in following the recent rain, giving free passage to stray animals which are a great cause of concern for local residents. Fallen trees, broken benches and rotting swings and slides force people to give the park a miss.
Heaps of garbage scattered in the park emanate a foul smell which greets visitors early morning.
"Parks are set up with a notion to provide better atmosphere for a walk or stroll but the apathetic attitude of the authorities concerned has worsened the situation", said Pardeeep Pasricha, a local resident.

{{/usCountry}}When contacted, Rajpal Singh, SDM cum administrator of municipal committee Abohar, acknowledged the above and claimed that heavy rain a fortnight ago had accentuated the problem. During his recent visit, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal had given Rs 10 lakh to beautify and maintain the park so very soon work for the same will commence.
