The victim, Rupinder Singh, and his father Karnail Singh had come to the court as witness, following an old case of assault against the attackers. They stopped at a shop to meet someone, where the accused intercepted them and abused them. Following the heated arguments, Jagmel opened fire at, both, the father and the son. Rupinder was hit on his left shoulder and was rushed to the nearby hospital from where the doctors referred them to Rajindra Hospital, where his condition was said to be stable.

Samana station house officer (SHO) Ranbir Singh said during the preliminary investigation, it was learnt that the accused had old rivalry with the victims. “The accused was facing a trail under Section 325, following a complaint by Karnail Singh.”

The accused, however, managed to flee from the spot and the police were conducting raids to trace their whereabouts.
