Baba Farid Society, which is running educational institutes, Baba Farid School and Law College, besides looking after the religious affairs of Tilla Baba Farid (shrine) and Gurdwara Mai Godri in Faridkot, on Tuesday, claimed that Gursewak Singh and Geeta Paasi, who were allegedly accused of embezzling Rs 1.58 crore of the society by fraudulent ways, has returned Rs 1 crore to the society and the rest of the amount was waived off/forgiven by the sangat assembled at Tilla Baba Farid during the morning prayer today.
“Though we had filed a police complaint in this regard and the two accused, who had been employees of the society, had flown to Singapore, later on they contacted us to return the money of the society by selling or pledging their properties. They returned Rs 1 crore today and rest of the money has been forgiven by the people after they admitted to their crime,” said Inderjeet Singh Khalsa, the chairman of the society.
On September 6, Faridkot police had booked four persons, including two employees -- Gursewak and Geeta Passi -- of the Baba Farid Society for the allegedly siphoning off Rs 1.58 lakh from the accounts of the society in the period between April 2014 to May 2015 by tampering with the old bills and cheques of the banks.
The police had registered a case against Gursewak Singh, his father Gurmej Singh, both residents of Ratti Rori village and Geeta Paasi and Vasdev Passi, both residents of Faridkot under Sections 420 (cheating),465 (punishment for forgery),467 (forgery of valuable security), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (used as genuine the forged) and 120 B of the IPC.

The society will now discuss the issue of withdrawing the complaint against them.
