Admn all set to start regular check on illegal mining

After cracking the whip on illegal sand mining in the district on Sunday, the administration has prepared itself to keep a regular check on the illegal sand mining. District industry centre's (DIC) officials will be continuously checking the riverbeds of Sutlej river.

After cracking the whip on illegal sand mining in the district on Sunday, the administration has prepared itself to keep a regular check on the illegal sand mining. District industry centre's (DIC) officials will be continuously checking the riverbeds of Sutlej river.

The DIC has divided the whole district into four units so that a regular check on illegal mining can be ensured. The district has been divided as Ludhiana-1, Ludhiana-2 as one unit, Ladhowal, Sidhwan bet and Machiwara as one unit each.

General manager DIC-cum-mining officer Mahesh Khanna said, "We have formed four teams that will visit the mining sites daily for two hours. Each team has been given a specific area to take care. Teams will also act after receiving complaints of illegal mining in the district."

Earlier raids were conducted on all the illegal mining sites of Sutlej river on Sunday after directions from the chief minister. In the raids, headed by deputy commissioner Rahul Tiwari in which ten FIR's were registered and around 50 trucks and machines were seized and challaned.
