In the last three parliament elections, the Akalis suffered loss because of division within the party leadership.

At the gathering, they pledged to make Deepender Dhillon win by a huge margin of votes. Cabinet minister Surjit Singh Rakhra assigned zones and duties to various party workers for the upcoming elections.

Addressing the gathering, Rakhra said Dhillon was an honest and committed person. He criticised Preneet on Hansi-Butana canal issue and said that because of her failure to stop the construction of canal in Haryana, people of Patiala were living under the constant fear of floods.

The minister alleged that Preneet Kaur and Congress ranks were more worried about the farmers in Gujarat. They had never bothered about their own people, he alleged.

All halqa in-charges ,including MLAs Harpreet Kaur, Vaninder Kaur Lumba, former minister Surjeet Singh Kohli, Tejinderpal Singh Sandhu, Raj kumar Khurana, Makhan Singh Lalka, Indermohan Singh Bajaj, mayor Amarinder Singh Bajaj and former mayor Ajitpal Singh Kohli, were present on the occasion to express their support.
