YAD national vice-president Gurpreet Singh Maluka said that before staking claim for the top job in the country, Gandhi should clear his stand on the issue, as lakhs of people were affected by drugs and the cropping up of Bajwa's name in the scandal was a serious blow to the Congress' image.

"The Congress silence in spite of the allegations by Captai Amarinder can signal that the party is supporting Bajwa in spite of these," he alleged.

The YAD leaders said that campaign of Bajwa against revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia was a conspiracy to demoralize and malign the Punjab police.

"Bajwa was scared that if Punjab Police continued with its sustained investigation, his links with the drug mafia will be revealed. Bajwa wanted to wanted to derail the probe," he claimed.

Bajwa's effigy burnt in Ferozepur
Ferozepur: District SAD president and irrigation minister Janmeja Singh Sekhon has also questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence on the allegations against Bajwa.

Workers also burnt the effigy of Partap Singh Bajwa and alleged that the silence only strengthened the perception that the party high command was willing to live with a 'tainted' state chief.
Sekhon was accompanied by Joginder Singh Jindu MLA, Vardev Singh Maan and others.
