Turbanator Harbhajan Singh (Bhajji) learned basic cricketing skills at his alma mater Montgomery Guru Nanak (MGN) School, Jalandhar grounds to later attain the status of world-renowned cricket icon. Ishan Malhotra one of the best bowlers in domestic cricket is also a product of MGN School. Another alumnus Mandeep Singh has played in the IPL seasons as a team member while Love Kumar Singh is the under 19 national player who was selected by senior Punjab cricket association.
The list of producing promising cricketers by MGN educational trust is long.The Bhai Gobind Singh Pasricha Memorial All India Inter School Cricket tournament is such an initiative to properly groom and honour promising cricketers. The tournament, which started with 12 teams belonging to three cities; Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Kapurthala in 2000 has covered a long journey of more than decade to witness a keen contest again during its 14th edition beginning October 03.
Jarnail Singh Pasricha, honorary secretary, MGN Educational Trust says, "The tournament will start from October 3 to 6. This time eight teams will be competing altogether from Punjab, Chandigarh, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh.The winning team will get a cash prize of Rs. 31,000. While second prize for the runner up team will be of Rs, 21,000 and the Man of series will be awarded with Rs. 3100".
Among the quartet of spinners, Bishan Singh Bedi would grace the tournament on the concluding day and give away the prizes to the winners while BBCI joint secretary Anurag Thakur would be the chief guest for opening ceremony, Pasricha added.
