Punjab Congress chief Captain Amarinder Singh on Saturday charged chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his deputy Sukhbir Badal with abdicating the authority even as there was a complete breakdown of law and order in the state which is “heading towards anarchy”.

Referring to Sukhbir’s statement that two warring religious leaders— Ranjit Singh Dhadrianwale and Harnam Singh Dhumma — should sort out the issue between themselves, Amarinder said: “This amounts to total abdication of authority as it is not a mere dispute between the two religious preachers, but an issue of law and order where 40 rounds of ammunition were fired and one person lost his life. The father-son duo should better resign.”

Saying that the police were still clueless about incident of firing at Dhadrianwale’s cavalcade, he asked: “Are the Badals trying to protect someone? And the deputy CM, who happens to be the home minister, wants them to settle it between themselves.”

Taking a dig at the senior Badal for “entertaining himself” in “sangat darshans” by holding medieval type “darbars” in villages and “befooling innocent people by offering false hopes,” Amarinder said the junior Badal was busy “promoting and watching his personal business interests”.

“Such a criminal negligence is pushing the state from lawlessness to anarchy,” he added.
