The Border Security Force (BSF) gunned down a Pakistani national who was trying to intrude into India from the section where the Samjhauta Express enters the country in the Attari region.

The incident took place around 9.30 pm on Thursday when the intruder despite being challenged by a BSF jawan kept approaching the fence. Though the BSF asked the Pak Rangers to take the body, they refused, saying he was not a Pakistani national.

Railway police inspector general Satpal Singh said, "At night, the BSF jawan spotted the man moving towards the border gate. On being challenged, he did not stop and kept running towards the Indian gate. As the intruder looked desperate to come to the fence, the jawan opened fire and shot him dead. A total of 21 rounds were fired by the jawan."

The police officer said the identity of the intruder was not established as no article or money was found on him. The Pak Rangers denied having any knowledge about him, he said.
