Amritsar central jail: Two mobile phones seized from inmate

Earlier, on July 18, the crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Amritsar police claimed to have busted a heroin smuggling racket, which was allegedly being operated from Amritsar jail premises, with arrests of two brothers.

The Amritsar central jail staff seized two mobile phones from an inmate during a special check on Thursday night.

Central jail assistant superintendent Gian Singh in his complaint with the Islamabad police said that two Samsung mobile phones were recovered Bhupinder Singh alias Pinder Singh of Kot Mit Singh, Amritsar.

Investigating officer, Fatahpur police assistant sub-inspector Kuldip Singh said, “On the complaint of jail authorities, a case has been registered under Sections 42, 52A of the Prison Act.”

Earlier, on July 18, the crime investigation agency (CIA) wing of Amritsar police claimed to have busted a heroin smuggling racket, which was allegedly being operated from Amritsar jail premises, with arrests of two brothers.

The police had said that the accused had been smuggling around 1kg heroin per month on instructions of their brother, Darshan Singh alias Raja, who is lodged in the Amritsar jail.
