In yet another case of sexual harassment at a village near here on Friday, a minor girl was allegedly given a poisonous substance after she objected to the advances of two boys.
The Amritsar (rural) police have arrested the two and registered a case against them under section 307 (attempt to murder) and 354 (molestation) at Raja Sansi police station. The girl has been hospitalised.
Talking to HT, Amritsar (rural) SSP PS Virk, who visited the hospital, said, "The minor girl, who studies in class 8, was on her way to the market when the two boys stopped her. As the boys grabbed her arm, she screamed. Following this, they allegedly forced some powder into her mouth. The girl later became unconscious and was hospitalised."
Billu and Sukhman had been arrested, the SSP said.
Virk said, "The doctor told me that the girl was given a poisonous substance. That is how she fell unconscious and is still in hospital."
The family claimed that the boys had teased the girl earlier also. Talking to HT, the girl's father said, "My daughter was on her way to the market when the two intercepted her and grabbed her arm. She shouted, after which they forced something poisonous into her mouth. My daughter went home and fell unconscious. We rushed her to the hospital."
