A Class four employee was suspended by the authorities of the government–run Jallianwala Bagh martyrs memorial civil hospital here on Friday after a woman patient gave a written complaint to the authorities, accusing him of ‘touching her in an inappropriate way and with a bad intention’.
A 23-year-old patient from Raiyaa, with her brother had come to the hospital for her medical examination on Friday. She alleged that while conducting ECG test around 1.00 pm, the employee, Harpreet, touched her in an inappropriate way.
Harpreet, a ward boy, was appointed two months ago, and was on contract basis with the hospital and was suspended immediately when the issue came to the fore.
Dr Charanjit Singh, senior medical officer, civil hospital, Amritsar said, “As soon as the issue came to us, we have immediately suspended Harpreet. This type of behaviour will not be tolerated. We do not want to take any chances, there is zero tolerance to misbehaviour.” A board has been formed and an inquiry has been marked that will submit its report after a month.
Dr Rajendra Arora, senior medical officer of the hospital, said, “Action has been taken, and an inquiry has been marked. Harpreet has been suspended for a month till the inquiry is on. We are sure that truth will come out.”
