On a tip-off that an auxiliary nurse midwife (ANM) of the community health centre in Badhni Kalan of the district was indulging in private practice in violation of the rules, senior officials of the health department raided a house where they found ANM Bhupinder Kaur allegedly treating a pregnant woman.
The patient was shifted to the local private hospital immediately. A probe has been ordered against the ANM. If the ANM is found guilty of violating the ‘no private practice’ norms, a strict departmental action will be taken against her, said senior officials.
Gurmail Singh Likhari, district president of Congress Sewa Dal, said that during the last two years, various social organisations had received several complaints and written to local officials of the health department regarding the violation of the ‘no private practice’ norms by some government doctors, nurses and ANMs in Badhni Kalan area, but no action was taken in this regard.
Amarjit Kaur, Moga chief medical officer (CMO) said, “I have ordered a probe into the matter under the supervision of senior medical officer Balwinder Singh.”
