On the complaint of Badrukhan farmer Jagwinder Singh, the chief vigilance officer (CVC) had ordered the probe panel, headed by ministry joint secretary Alkesh Sharma, to conduct an inquiry against public works department (PWD) and the ministry.

Sharma and central vigilance commission (CVC) director UD Bhargava recorded the statements of the complainant and other farmers who had demanded a CBI probe into the alleged bungling and irregularities in path finalisation and the subsequent land acquisition process.

A memorandum-cum-fresh complaint and conflicting maps were also handed over to the panel.

Ram Kumar, another farmer, showed the committee markings that showed the bypass on the Ubhawal road, which were later shifted towards Sangrur without any fresh survey.

The probe panel said they would submit their report to the CVC in New Delhi.
