The accused, identified as Kamla Rani, was booked under Medical Termination Pregnancy Act and fraud charges under the Indian Penal Code.

Rani was allegedly running an unauthorised clinic for more than a decade by posing as a doctor and was conducting illegal abortions, for which she charged a hefty sum.

Raiding team found banned injections and 32 types of medicines she used for conducting abortions. Health authorities said that they received a tip off after which they conducted the raid.

However, the accused managed to give a slip to the raiding team by pretending to call the real owner of clinic and thereafter, escaping from the back door of the clinic.

Meanwhile, sensing trouble villagers gathered outside the clinic to intervene, after which the police deployed some more of the force to bring the situation under control.

This case comes a few days after health authorities’ crackdown on several illegal abortion racket run by some women at Lakhan Majra, Sampla and on Ladhot road on the outskirts of the town.
