Sant Singh Ghagga, former district president of the party, is also among the leaders who resigned from the Congress, along with his at least two-dozen supporters.

Sant Singh said he had spent 34 years with the Congress, but due to internal bickering in the party — involving Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa, Amritsar MP Captain Amarinder Singh, former chief minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal and other senior party leaders — he decided to resign from the party along with his supporters.

He also lashed out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi for spreading nepotism right from the national to the grass-roots level. He said due to the dynastic rule in the party, a common worker had no scope.

He also claimed that two former Congress MLAs and members of zila parishad from Patiala are in the queue to resign from the party and were in his contact with him. He said many more Congress workers could resign.

However, he did not disclose his association with any political party and said the next course of action would be announced shortly.
