The annual examinations conducted by Punjab School Education Board are four months away. Hence, with a view to curb mass copying, the board has directed schools to begin anti-cheating campaign in their respective schools. Several schools in the district conducted rallies on Tuesday in which students carried placards with anti-cheating slogans.
Government Model Senior Secondary School ( boys), Jawahar Nagar, organised a rally in which students and staff members raised slogans against cheating during examinations. Other schools like Government Model Senior Secondary School, Cemetery Road, Government Model Senior Secondary School, PAU and others also held rallies.
Talking to Hindustan Times, Paramjit Kaur Chahal, district education officer, secondary, said, “To curb cheating during examinations, the board had directed us to conduct rallies on October 7. Cheating is a crime and if the children indulge in this crime right from their childhood then he/she may get habitual in doing things without any hardwork and with illegal means. So, it is very important to curb cheating.”
Further, seminars will also be conducted in schools and an exhibition of posters on the team of anti-cheating will be held.
According to the education department, in 2012, around 100 cheating cases were reported from Ludhiana during the annual exams in March; while in March 2013,12 cases were reported from the district. In 2014, March exams around 21 cases were reported. Last year, another four students were caught using mobile phones with blue tooth for cheating during the exams.
