On average, four people were arrested and three booked everyday by the Jalandhar rural police under various sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act between January 1 and December 30.
Intensifying their anti-drug drive, police arrested as many as 1,513 people and booked 1,175 in 364 days.
Among the arrested, five hail from Jammu and Kashmir and Uttar Pradesh and are part of an inter-state drug peddling gang.
As per information, on June 3, the rural police arrested Mohammad Ramjan of Qazigund in Kashmir from Nizamudin village near Bhogpur at a special naka and reportedly seized 10 kg charas from his possession.

On May 10, two UP-based drug peddlers were arrested with 38.77 quintals of poppy husk (packed in 110 sacks) from a canter on the Phillaur-Rurka road in the district. The accused had been identified as Hari Sundar, a resident of Basoli, and Kallu of Kesarpur village of Rampur district in Uttar Pradesh.
One Anwar from Rajasthan was booked by the Mehatpur police station under the NDPS Act. He was absconding.
In this drive, police seized 12.275 kg heroin, 11544.500 kg poppy husk, 98 kg intoxicant powder, 8.660 kg opium, 10 kg charas, 86 gm smack, 320 injections, 4,100 intoxicant capsules or pills.
Senior superintendent of police Narinder Bhargava claimed that the arrest of big fish had cut off the supply-chain of drug smuggling in the district.
