Chief of the Indian Army General Bikram Singh and Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday discussed the functioning of security grid and other security-related issues in the state. The army chief, who arrived here on Saturday, called on by the chief minister along with General Officer Commanding (GOC)-in-Chief, Northern Command, Lt General DS Hooda and GOC 15 Corps Lt General Subrata Saha.
According to an army press release, General Singh arrived in Srinagar for a farewell visit to the strategically important Chinar Corps.
"For General Singh, visit to the Valley is like homecoming, as he has commanded the Chinar Corps from November 25, 2008 to November 30, 2009,"said the army spokesman.
General Singh commenced his visit by paying homage to the martyrs at the Chinar War Memorial.
"The General addressed the officers and interacted with all ranks. He complimented the Chinar Corps for ensuring a secure environment in the state. He emphasised on synergised people-friendly operations, upholding the law of the land, respecting human rights and no collateral damage.
He highlighted several initiatives being undertaken for capability augmentation of the Armed Forces and welfare measures,"reads the army statement.
General Singh later called upon by governor NN Vohra.
