Army colonel booked for subjecting wife to cruelty

Accusing her husband of having an extra-marital affair with another army officer, she alleged he beat her up when she objected to it.

The Zirakpur police have booked an army colonel for subjecting his wife to cruelty.

Colonel Kanwar Yudheshwar Singh is presently serving in the Northern Command and is stationed at Doda, Jammu and Kashmir.

The 35-year-old complainant also retired as a captain after short service in the army in 2010. The two got married nine years ago and have two children.

Accusing her husband of having an extra-marital affair with another army officer, she alleged he beat her up when she objected to it.

“Since the day we got married I have been subjected to mental torture,” she told HT. “He also used to beat me, and the situation worsened after I came to know about his infidelity.”

The retired army officer, who along with her children is residing at her parent’s house in Zirakpur, said she had been taking up the matter with command officers for the past one year , but got no response.

Zirakpur station house officer (SHO) said: “We will be writing to the Northern Command about the complaint. We will ask them to join the investigation at the earliest.”
