According to the police, the accused allegedly attacked Kapil Dev Sharma with sharp-edged weapons late on Wednesday. The injured was rushed to a local private hospital, after which he was shifted to a private hospital at Amritsar. No arrest has been made so far.

In his complaint to the Moga senior superintendent of police (SSP), Sharma stated that few people, including ASI Surinder Pal Singh and head constable Jatinder Kumar, attacked him with weapons and wooden sticks when he was returning home after shutting shop.

The victim alleged that two years ago, Vikram Sharma - one of the attackers - had opened fire at him using a revolver. A case was registered by the Kot-Ise-Khan police against Vikram. "After that we had reached a compromise in the presence of my close relatives," he added in his complaint.

As per information, ASI Singh is posted at Smalsar police station under Baghapurana sub-division, and head constable Jatinder Kumar is posted at Ajitwal police station under Nihal Singh Wala sub-division of the district.

Moga SSP Jatinder Singh Khaira said he had ordered an inquiry into the case.
