Demanding Rs 30 from three youths who had bought ‘kulfi’ from him had cost vendor Bimal Kishore, 26, his life on the intervening night of June 22 and June 23. The Panchkula police on Saturday claimed to have solved the month-old murder case with the arrest of two of the accused. The third is still absconding.
The arrested duo — Ajit and Ashish — are petty thieves and residents of Sector 20-based Ashiana Colony, said inspector Lalit Kumar, Sector 5 station house officer (SHO). They along with Happy had stopped their motorcycle at the Rally Chowk (Sector 12/12A) to buy ‘kulfi’ from Kishore around 12:15am, said the SHO. When they tried to leave without paying for it, Kishore tried to stop them. Enraged, they stabbed him a number of times, he said.
The post-mortem examination revealed four wounds, with one on the back, two on the chest and one in the stomach. The one on the chest pierced Kishore’s heart while that on the back injured his lung. The incident was caught on a closed-circuit television (CCTV) installed at the roundabout. However, the registration number of the bike and faces of the accused were not clear. A team was formed under the SHO to trace the accused.
“We interrogated a number of people. Finally, we got a tip-off and arrested Ajit and Ashish. They both confessed to have committed the crime. We are searching for Happy,” said inspector Lalit Kumar. The accused are drug addicts and were in an inebriated condition during the incident, he said.
