Earlier, police had earlier registered the case under sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 341(punishment for wrongful restraint), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon) and 149 (guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object) of the IPC on June 1 against Mukhmit Singh, Upinder Singh, Amritpal Singh, Asan Narula, Damanvir Singh, Karanvir Singh and three unidentified accused.

Though the accused have already availed the bail, after the addition of section 307, they could face the arrest again.

It is pertinent to mention that on May 30, two factions of students at GADVASU had entered into a scuffle. Sukhpreet Singh, a student of bachelor of veterinary sciences (third year), who tried to intervene and pacify them, was attacked by the accused. Singh had suffered grievous head injuries and was rushed to the DMCH.

Alleging the accused students of influencing police, she said they were pressurising police, and doctors administrating treatment to her son.

Meanwhile, sub-inspector Surinder Kumar, station house officer (SHO), PAU police station, said the accused had availed bail in the case, but now, with the addition of section 307, they would be arrested again.
