B'desh team visits RCF to inspect manufacturing process

Rail Coach Factory, Kapurthala, may soon export 70 AC broad-gauge coaches to Bangladesh this year. Though a formal order is yet to be received at the RCF, talks are in the final stage, senior PRO Varinder Vij has revealed.

A team from Bangladesh led by joint secretary, economic relations division of the ministry of finance, Md Asif Uz Zaman, and deputy high commissioner in India, Mahbub Hassan Saleh, visited the workshop at the RCF on Tuesday to inspect the infrastructure facilities available.

A delegation from Bangladesh had also visited RCF in last month to look into the infrastructure and coach manufacturing capabilities and expressed interest in purchasing AC coaches and this was the second such inspection by high-officials from the Bangladesh, he added.

RCF sources said the delegation was impressed with the modern infrastructure of RCF adding that the team was particularly interested in the stainless steel welding process, robotics welding process and laser cutting.

"We plan to make 50 AC broad guage coaches, 8 sleeper coaches for first class AC and 12 power cars for export to Bangladesh this fiscal," he added.
