On Tuesday, HT had highlighted how with courage, Sukhbir Singh of Urrang village in Malout assembly constituency had studied up to matriculation without any government help. On Wednesday, the CM rang up Gurinder Pal Kaur, district education officer of Muktsar, and told her to arrange his meeting with Sukhbir at Fazilka on July 1.

"The CM is to visit Fazilka on July 1," said Gurinder Pal Kaur. "He has told me to bring Sukhbir over so that he could meet him." The boy has led a difficult life, but the government has never offered him any help. The CM has come to his village many times, but the rich over there never allowed the boy to meet Badal. Sukhbir's father is a poor labourer.

Sukhbir, who shares his name with Badal's son, has appreciated the CM's gesture. "I thank the CM for paying attention to my plight," he said here on Wednesday. "If he can help me get artificial arms, I will be grateful to him. I will also request him to arrange for my further studies, for my parents are poor."
