With Punjabi singer-actor Balkar Sidhu now a bona fide Congress member and a “serious politician” in Punjab, we took a little stroll down memory lane into his not-so-glorious past.
Sidhu was in the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) earlier and, owing to his friendship with AAP MP Bhagwant Mann, had even got the ticket to fight the 2014 Talwandi Sabo assembly by poll which was withdrawn later owing to some allegations of human trafficking against him. A section had even underlined some of his songs that glorified guns and alcohol, a couple of which we were able to dig up thanks to the little thing called YouTube!
Here are a couple of Sidhu’s gems –
Daaru – The title of this track says it all. And it only gets better (or worse) from then on! Dekho yaara cheez banayi kya daaru (Alcohol is such a marvelous creation!) Pakad glassi, khol de botal, paa daaru (hold the glass, open the bottle of liquor and pour on).
Revolver – Another gem which also features Bhinda Aujla. As if glorifying alcohol in a state already battling addiction wasn’t enough, here is some straightforward glorification of arms and ammunition! Dum wich rakheya revolver, je koi tang kare to saanu call kar (I have kept a revolver loaded; if someone troubles you just call me!)
