One of the famous socialists of Punjab, Balwant Singh Khera, has been elected the vice-president of the Socialist Party (India) during the party's second foundation day celebrations at Trivandrum (Kerala) held on May 16-18 in which around 600 delegates from 17 states had arrived.

Former Maharashtra minister Bhai Vaidya was elected president of the 51-member executive committee. Retired chief justice of Delhi high court, Rajinder Sachar had inaugurated the national conference.
