She came to the MC office in her private car in the afternoon and handed over her resignation to executive officer Rajesh Khokhar. She also thanked all MC employees for their support and said that as a councilor, she tried her best to provide the best facilities to the people of the town.

Earlier, Ambika had sent her resignation to state BJP president Ashwani Sharma, but he refused to accept it, saying the party had nothing to do with her resignation, which should be handed over to the executive officer, who was the appropriate authority.

As many as 22 BJP and SAD councillors of the 33-member House had issued a notice for a no-confidence motion against Khanna, levelling charges of mismanagement, corruption and dictatorial attitude against her. It is learnt that Khanna and her father had left no stone unturned to get the support of the remaining 11 councillors.

After being denied ticket, Sahni had revolted against the BJP and joined the Congress.
