City girl Ramandeep Kaur Sran has brought laurels to the state by getting selected to the army through the Judge Advocate General (JAG) entry scheme, which has just four seats across the country.
Sran, daughter of a head constable in Punjab Police, will leave to Officers’ Training Academy, Chennai, in October to undergo training for 49 weeks.
“It is a proud moment for my family and me. My parents are my biggest support. They have always ensured a balanced life for my brother and me.”
“I have seen my father work selflessly for our society. I believe children learn from their parents and the environment around them. My parents taught me to serve my nation, and the result is here.”
She completed LLB from Panjab University, Chandigarh, and LLM from Jayoti Vidyapeeth Women’s University, Jaipur.
“After completing LLM, I went to Delhi to prepare for civil services examination. That’s when I found out about JAG and enrolled. Later, I got a call letter from Service Selection Board (SSB), Bhopal.”
“At SSB, I went through psychology, physical and personal tests. I was positive after the interviews. But, I was also apprehensive as it is not an easy task to get selected among the top four girls of the country.”

{{/usCountry}}Setting an example to girls, she said, “Girls are no less than boys, and nothing should be tagged as a male-dominated profession.” She also emphasised the importance of parents’ support in achieving goals, especially for girls.
