“Some people were again trying to disturb the hard-earned peace. We should remain vigilant against their designs,” Badal said while addressing a gathering at a state-level function after launching Bhagat Puran Singh Sehat Bima Yojana (BPSSBY) for BPL families and inaugurating `180-crore Rupnagar bypass along with deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal.

Seeking to boost the government’s image which has taken a hit due to farmers’ anger against it, Badal said the SAD-BJP regime has always stood by farmers in difficult times.

“Our government not only released Rs 640 crore as compensation for cotton growers, but also gave cane growers a grant of `700-crore,” said Badal.

The chief minister said the SAD-BJP government was fully aware of farmers’ problems. “We have been giving free power to farmers despite severe criticism from several quarters, including the previous Congress-led UPA government,” he said.

Badal urged the farmers not to be swayed by the “opposition’s false propaganda” on farming crisis in the state. He said it was the Congress, which had ruled the country for several years, that was responsible for the plight of farmers.

Sukhbir announced that the state government would soon launch special cashless health facility scheme for farmers.
